✧ O people, there is no harm in sarf as long as it is hand to hand; riba is only in nasi'ah. So a word spread among the people of the east and the west until when the season ended, Abu Sa'id al-Khudri entered upon him and said: "O Ibn 'Abbas, have you consumed riba and fed it to others?" He said: "Did I do that?" He said: "Yes. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Gold for gold, weight for weight, like for like, its ore and its minted; whoever increases or asks for increase has committed riba. Silver for silver, weight for weight, like for like, its ore and its minted; whoever increases or asks for increase has committed riba. Barley for barley, dates for dates, salt for salt, like for like; whoever increases or asks for increase has committed riba.'" Until when the next year came, Ibn 'Abbas came and I came with him. He praised Allah and extolled Him, then said: "O people, last year I spoke a word from my own opinion, and I seek forgiveness from Allah for it and turn to Him in repentance. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Gold for gold, weight for weight, like for like, its ore and its minted; whoever increases or asks for increase has committed riba.'" And he repeated to them these six types.
