حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَابَهْرَامَ الْأَيْذَجِيُّ ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ الْقَطَّانُ ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ سُوَيْدٍ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ بْنِ حُسَيْنِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ بْنِ أَبِي لُبَابَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ «كَيْفَ تُقَاتِلُونَ الْقَوْمَ إِذَا لَقِيتُمُوهُمْ؟» فَقَامَ عَاصِمُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِذَا كَانَ الْقَوْمُ مِنَّا حَيْثُ يَنَالُهُمُ النَّبْلُ كَانَتِ الْمُرَامَاةُ بِالنَّبْلِ فَإِذَا اقْتَرَبُوا حَتَّى يَنَالَنَا وَإِيَّاهُمُ الْحِجَارَةُ كَانَتِ الْمُرَاضَخَةُ بِالْحِجَارَةِ فَأَخَذَ ثَلَاثَةَ أَحْجَارٍ فِي يَدَهِ وحَجَرَيْنِ فِي حِزْمَتِهِ فَإِذَا اقْتَرَبُوا حَتَّى يَنَالَنَا وَإِيَّاهُمُ الرَّمَّاحُ كَانَتِ الْمُدَاعَسَةُ بِالرِّمَاحِ فَإِذَا انْقَضَتِ الرِّمَاحُ كَانَتِ الْجِلَادُ بِالسُّيُوفِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «بِهَذَا أُنْزِلَتِ الْحَرْبُ مَنْ قَاتَلَ فلْيُقَاتِلْ قِتَالَ عَاصِمٍ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said on the day of Badr, "How will you fight the people when you meet them?" Asim b. Thabit stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah, when the people are from us at the range where arrows reach them, it will be archery with arrows; when they draw near until stones reach us and them, it will be stoning with stones." He took three stones in his hand and two in his belt. "When they draw near until spears reach us and them, it will be thrusting with spears; when the spears are exhausted, it will be striking with swords." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "For this war was sent down. Whoever fights, let him fight the fighting of Asim."
