حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ ثنا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَظِيمِ الْعَنْبَرِيُّ ثنا الْمَنْصُورُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ثنا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو النَّجَاشِيِّ حَدَّثَنِي رَافِعُ بْنُ خَدِيجٍ قَالَ
قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْمَدِينَةَ وَهُمْ يُؤَبِّرُونَ النَّخْلَ يَقُولُ يُلَقِّحُونَ قَالَ «مَا تَصْنَعُونَ؟» قَالُوا كُنَّا نَصْنَعُهُ قَالَ «لَوْ لَمْ تَفْعَلُوا كَانَ خَيْرًا» فَتَرَكُوهَا فَشِيصَتْ فَذُكِرَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ فَقَالَ «إِنَّمَا أَنَا بَشَرٌ فَإِذَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ دِينِكُمْ فَخُذُوا بِهِ وَإِذَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ دُنْيَاكُمْ فَإِنَّمَا أَنَا بَشَرٌ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Madinah while they were pollinating date-palms, meaning fertilizing them. He said: "What are you doing?" They said: We used to do it. He said: "If you did not do it, it would be better." So they left it, and the dates became unripe and inferior. That was mentioned to him, and he said: "I am only a human. If I command you regarding something of your religion, then follow it; but if I command you regarding something of your worldly affairs, then I am only a human."
