حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ وَعَبْدَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ قَالَا ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ عَوْنٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ أَخْبَرَنِي جَعْفَرُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بَعَثَهُ وَحْدَهُ عَيْنًا إِلَى قُرَيْشٍ قَالَ فَجِئْتُ إِلَى خَشَبَةِ خُبَيْبٍ وَأَنَا أَتَخَوَّفُ الْعَيْنَ فَرَقِيتُ فِيهَا فَحَلَلْتُ خُبَيْبًا فَوَقَعَ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ فَانْتَبَذْتُ غَيْرَ بَعِيدٍ ثُمَّ أَرَى خُبَيْبًا كَأَنَّمَا ابْتَلَعَتْهُ الْأَرْضُ فَمَا رُؤِيَ خُبَيْبٌ إِلَى السَّاعَةِ قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَقَدْ كَانَ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ عَوْنٍ قَالَ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me alone as a spy to Quraysh. He said: I came to the wood of Khubayb while I was wary of being seen, and I climbed up it and untied Khubayb. He fell to the ground, and I withdrew not far. Then Khubayb seemed as if the earth had swallowed him, and Khubayb has not been seen until now. Abu Bakr b. Abi Shayba said: Ja'far b. 'Awn had narrated from Ja'far b. 'Amr b. Umayya, from his father, from his grandfather.
