حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْأَزْدِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ثنا زَائِدَةُ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ هِلَالِ بْنِ يَسَافٍ عَنْ رَبِيعِ بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنِ امْرَأَةٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ قَالَتْ قَالَ أَبُو أَيُّوبَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَيَعْجِزُ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يَقْرَأَ فِي لَيْلَةٍ بِثُلُثِ الْقُرْآنِ؟» فَأَشْفَقْنَا أَنْ يَأْمُرَنَا بِأَمْرٍ نَعْجِزُ عَنْهُ فَسَكَتْنَا فَقَالَ «أَيَعْجِزُ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يَقْرَأَ فِي لَيْلَةٍ بِثُلُثِ الْقُرْآنِ؟» فَأَشْفَقْنَا أَنْ يَأْمُرَنَا بِأَمْرٍ نَعْجِزُ عَنْهُ فَسَكَتْنَا فَقَالَ أَيَعْجِزُ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يَقْرَأَ فِي لَيْلَةٍ بِثُلُثِ الْقُرْآنِ؟ فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ قَرَأَ فِي لَيْلَةٍ اللهُ الْوَاحِدُ الصَّمَدُ فَقَدْ قَرَأَ لَيْلَتَهُ بِثُلُثِ الْقُرْآنِ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Would any of you be unable to recite a third of the Qur’an in a night?” We feared that he would command us with something we could not do, so we remained silent. Then he said: “Would any of you be unable to recite a third of the Qur’an in a night?” We feared that he would command us with something we could not do, so we remained silent. Then he said: “Would any of you be unable to recite a third of the Qur’an in a night? For whoever recites in a night ‘Allāhu al-Wāḥid al-Ṣamad’ (Allah, the One, the Eternal Refuge) has recited in his night a third of the Qur’an.”
