حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الدِّمَشْقِيُّ ثنا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ الْحَكَمُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ أَنَا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ قَالَ
كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَصْحَابُهُ يَأْخُذُونَ الْعَفْوَ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ وَأَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ كَمَا أَمَرَهُمُ اللهُ ﷻ وَيَصْبِرُوا عَلَى الْأَذَى قَالَ اللهُ ﷻ {وَلَتَسْمَعُنَّ مِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ وَمِنَ الَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُوا أَذًى كَثِيرًا} الْآيَةَ وَكَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَتَأَوَّلُ فِي الْعَفْوِ مَا أَمَرَهُ اللهُ بِهِ حَتَّى أَذِنَ اللهُ فِيهِمْ فَلَمَّا غَزَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بَدْرًا فَقَتَلَ اللهُ مَنْ قَتَلَ مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ مِنْ صَنَادِيدِ قُرَيْشٍ قَالَ ابْنُ أُبَيٍّ وَمَنْ مَعَهُ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ هَذَا أَمْرٌ قَدْ تَوَجَّهَ لَهُ فَبَايِعُوا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى الْإِسْلَامِ فَأَسْلَمُوا

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his companions used to accept pardon from the polytheists and the People of the Book as Allah, Mighty and Sublime, commanded them, and they were patient in the face of harm. Allah, Mighty and Sublime, said: 'You will surely hear from those who were given the Scripture before you and from those who associate others with Allah much abuse' [Quran 3:186]. The Prophet ﷺ used to interpret the command of pardon as Allah had commanded him until Allah gave permission concerning them. When the Prophet ﷺ raided Badr and Allah killed those He killed of the disbelievers among the leaders of Quraysh, Ibn Ubayy and those with him among the polytheists said: 'This is a matter that has taken hold. So pledge allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ upon Islam.' And they became Muslims.
