حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ الْبَغَوِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الْمُقَدَّمِيُّ ثنا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي قَالَ سَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ رَاشِدٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ خَبَّابِ بْنِ الْأَرَتِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ
صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَاةً فَأَطَالَهَا فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّيْتَ صَلَاةً لَمْ تَكُنْ تُصَلِّيهَا قَالَ «أَجَلْ إِنَّهَا صَلَاةُ رَغَبٍ وَرَهَبٍ وَإِنِّي سَأَلْتُ رَبِّي فِيهَا ثَلَاثًا فَأَعْطَانِي اثْنَتَيْنِ وَمَنَعَنِي وَاحِدَةً سَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ لَا يُهْلِكَ أُمَّتِي بِسُنَّةٍ فَأَعْطَانِيهَا وَسَأَلْتُهُ أَلَّا يُسَلِّطَ عَلَيْهِمْ عَدُوًّا مِنْ غَيْرِهِمْ فَأَعْطَانِيهَا وَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ لَا يُذِيقَ بَعْضَهُمْ بَأْسَ بَعْضٍ فَمَنَعَنِيهَا»

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ prayed a prayer and lengthened it. They said, “O Messenger of God, you prayed a prayer that you had not been praying.” He said, “Yes, indeed. It is a prayer of desire and fear. I asked my Lord three things in it; He granted me two and withheld one. I asked Him not to destroy my community through a widespread famine, and He granted me that. I asked Him not to set over them an enemy from other than themselves, and He granted me that. I asked Him not to make some of them taste the violence of others, and He withheld that from me.”
