حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ الطَّوِيلُ ثنا صَالِحُ بْنُ أَبِي الْأَخْضَرِ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ قَالَ أَتَى عُمَرُ عَلَى حَسَّانَ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ ؓ وَهُوَ يَنْشُدُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَقَالَ هَهُنَا؟ فَقَالَ
قَدْ كُنْتُ أَنْشُدُ فِيهِ مَنْ هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِنْكَ فَوَلَّى عُمَرُ ؓ خَشْيَةَ أَنْ يَقُولَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ حَسَّانُ عَلَى أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ فَقَالَ أَنْشُدُكَ اللهَ أَتَعْلَمُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «يَا حَسَّانُ أَجِبْ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ اللهُمَّ أَيِّدْهُ بِرُوحِ الْقُدُسِ» ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ

✧ I used to recite in it to one better than you. Umar ؓ turned away, fearing that he would say the Messenger of God ﷺ. Then Hassan turned to Abu Hurayrah and said: “I adjure you by God, do you know that the Messenger of God ﷺ said: ‘O Hassan, respond on behalf of the Messenger of God. O God, support him with the Holy Spirit’?” He said: “Yes.”
