✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was standing at Arafah during the Farewell Pilgrimage. A bedouin came and took hold of the edge of his cloak and asked him for it, so he gave it to him and he went off with it. At that point, begging was prohibited. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Charity is not lawful for a wealthy person, nor for one who is strong and able-bodied, except in cases of crushing poverty or overwhelming debt.” And he said, “Whoever asks people in order to increase his wealth, it will be scratches on his face and hot stones that he eats from Hellfire. So let him who wishes ask little, and let him who wishes ask much.”
