حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ثنا الْمُرَقَّعُ بْنُ صَيْفِيٍّ عَنْ حَنْظَلَةَ الْكَاتِبِ قَالَ
غَزَوْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَمَرَرْنَا بِامْرَأَةٍ قَدْ قُتِلَتْ لَهَا خَلْقٌ وَالنَّاسُ عَلَيْهَا فَفَرَّجُوا لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «مَا كَانَتْ هَذِهِ لِتُقَاتِلُ» ثُمَّ قَالَ اذْهَبْ فَالْحَقْ خَالِدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ فَقُلْ لَا تَقْتُلْ ذُرِّيَّةً وَلَا عَسِيفًا
Translation

✧ We went on a raid with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and we passed by a woman who had been killed. The people had gathered around her, and they made way for the Prophet ﷺ. He said, “This woman was not one to have fought.” Then he said: Go and catch up with Khalid b. al-Walid and tell him: Do not kill children or a hired laborer (ʿasīf).
