حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ الْمُؤَدِّبُ ثنا هَوْذَةُ بْنُ خَلِيفَةَ ثنا عَوْفٌ عَنْ أَبِي الْمِنْهَالِ عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ قَالَ

كَانَ رَجُلٌ مِنَّا قَدْ صَاحَبَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يُقَالُ لَهُ مَالِكٌ أَوْ أَبُو مَالِكٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَقَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَقْوَامًا مَا هُمْ بِأَنْبِيَاءَ وَلَا شُهَدَاءَ يَغْبِطُهُمُ الْأَنْبِيَاءُ وَالشُّهَدَاءُ كَأَنَّهُمْ مِنَ اللهِ ﷻ أَقْوَامٌ مِنْ قَبَائِلَ شَتَّى يَتَحَابُّونَ فِي اللهِ»

Translation

✧ There was a man among us who had accompanied the Messenger of God ﷺ, called Malik or Abu Malik. He said: I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: "I have known peoples who are neither prophets nor martyrs, whom the prophets and martyrs envy, as if they are from God ﷻ—peoples from various tribes who love one another for the sake of God."
