حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبَانَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ قَالَا ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ثنا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ عِمْرَانَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ صَالِحِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ مَحْمُودِ بْنِ لَبِيدٍ قَالَ قَالَ
الْحَارِثُ بْنُ الصِّمَّةِ سَأَلَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ وَهُوَ فِي الشِّعْبِ «هَلْ رَأَيْتَ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَوْفٍ؟» قُلْتُ نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ رَأَيْتُهُ إِلَى حَرِّ الْجَبَلِ وَعَلَيْهِ عَكَرٌ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ فَهَرَبْتُ إِلَيْهِ لِأَمْنَعَهُ فَرَأَيْتُكَ فَعَدَلْتُ إِلَيْكَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «أَمَا إِنَّ الْمَلَائِكَةَ تُقَاتِلُ مَعَهُ» قَالَ الْحَارِثُ فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ فَأَجِدُهُ بَيْنَ نَفَرٍ سَبْعَةٍ صَرْعَى فَقُلْتُ لَهُ ظَفِرَتْ يَمِينُكَ أَكُلَّ هَؤُلَاءِ قَتَلْتَ؟ قَالَ أَمَّا هَذَا لِأَرْطاةَ بْنِ شُرَحْبِيلَ وَهَذَا فَأَنَا قَتَلْتُهُمَا وَأَمَّا هَؤُلَاءِ فَقَتَلَهُمْ مَنْ لَمْ أَرَهُ قُلْتُ صَدَقَ اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

✧ Al-Ḥārith b. al-Ṣimma said: The Messenger of God ﷺ asked me on the day of Uḥud while he was in the mountain pass, “Have you seen ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAwf?” I said, “Yes, O Messenger of God, I saw him at the foot of the mountain with a band of polytheists upon him, so I rushed to him to defend him, but then I saw you and turned to you.” The Prophet ﷺ said, “Indeed, the angels are fighting alongside him.” Al-Ḥārith said: I returned to ʿAbd al-Raḥmān and found him among seven slain men. I said to him, “May your right hand prosper! Did you kill all of these?” He said, “As for this one—Arṭāh b. Shuraḥbīl—and this one, I killed them. As for those others, someone I did not see killed them.” I said, “God and His Messenger have spoken the truth.”
