حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ثنا عَمِّي عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْحِنَّائِيُّ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ قَالَا ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ ثنا أَبِي ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الشُّعَيْثِيُّ عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ بَدَلٍ قَالَ
«شَهِدْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ فَانْهَزَمَ أَصْحَابُهُ أَجْمَعُونَ إِلَّا الْعَبَّاسَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ وَأَبَا سُفْيَانَ بْنَ الْحَارِثِ فَرَمَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وُجُوهَنَا بِقَبْضَةٍ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ فَانْهَزَمْنَا فَمَا يُخَيَّلُ إِلَيَّ أَنَّ شَجَرَةً وَلَا حَجَرًا إِلَّا وَهُوَ فِي آثَارِنَا»

✧ I witnessed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Hunayn, and all his companions were routed except al-Abbas b. Abd al-Muttalib and Abu Sufyan b. al-Harith. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ threw a handful of earth at our faces, and we were routed. It did not seem to me that there was any tree or stone except that it was in our tracks.
