حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْمُعَلَّى الدِّمَشْقِيُّ وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْعَسْكَرِيُّ قَالَا ثنا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ صُبْحٍ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ الْقُرَشِيُّ ثنا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا حَسَّانُ بْنُ عَطِيَّةَ حَدَّثَنِي مُسْلِمٌ عَنْ أَبِي وَاقِدٍ اللَّيْثِيِّ قَالَ
كُنْتُ جَالِسًا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا بِأَرْضِ تُصِيبُنَا الْمَخْمَصَةُ فَمَاذَا يَصْلُحُ لَنَا مِنَ الْمَيْتَةِ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِذَا لَمْ تَصْطَبِحُوا وَلَمْ تَغْتَبِقُوا وَلَمْ تَحْتَفِئُوا فَشَأْنَكُمْ بِهَا» هَكَذَا رَوَاهُ الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ عَنِ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ عَنْ حَسَّانَ عَنْ مَرْثَدٍ أَوْ أَبِي مَرْثَدٍ وَهُوَ وَهْمٌ وَالصَّوَابُ مَا رَوَاهُ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ الْقَارِّيُّ عَنِ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ

✧ I was sitting with the Prophet ﷺ when a man said: “O Messenger of Allah, we are in a land where we are afflicted by hunger. What is suitable for us from dead meat?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “If you have not had a morning drink or an evening drink, and you have not gathered wild greens, then you may make use of it.” This is how al-Walīd b. Muslim reported it from al-Awzāʿī, from Ḥassān, from Marthad or Abū Marthad, and it is a mistake. The correct version is what ʿAbd Allāh b. Kathīr al-Qārī reported from al-Awzāʿī.
