حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الْقَزَّازُ قَالَا ثنا حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْحَوْضِيُّ ثنا هَمَّامٌ ثنا لَيْثُ بْنُ أَبِي سُلَيْمٍ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ مَرْثَدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَلَّمَهُمُ الصَّلَاةَ عَلَى الْمَيِّتِ «اللهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِأَحْيائِنَا وَأَمْواتِنَا وَأَصْلِحْ ذَاتَ بَيْنَنَا وَأَلِّفْ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِنَا اللهُمَّ إِنَّ هَذَا عَبْدُكَ فُلَانُ بْنُ فُلَانٍ لَا نَعْلَمُ إِلَّا خَيْرًا وَأَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِ فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلَهُ» قَالَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ وَأَنَا أَصْغَرُ الْقَوْمِ فَإِنْ لَمْ أَعْلَمْ خَيْرًا؟ قَالَ «فَلَا تَقُلْ إِلَّا مَا تَعْلَمُ»

✧ The Prophet ﷺ taught them the prayer over the deceased: "O God, forgive our living and our dead, set right our mutual relations, and bring our hearts together. O God, this is Your servant so-and-so son of so-and-so; we know nothing but good of him, and You know him best, so forgive us and him." He said: I said to him—and I was the youngest of the people—"What if I do not know any good of him?" He said, "Then say only what you know."
