حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ حُرَيْثِ بْنِ أَبِي مَطَرٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ حَفْصٍ عَنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ حِزَامٍ قَالَ
سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ الصَّوْمِ فَقَالَ «صُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ» قُلْتُ إِنِّي أُطِيقُ حَتَّى نَازَلَنِي ثُمَّ قَالَ «صُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ» قُلْتُ إِنِّي أُطِيقُ حَتَّى نَازَلَنِي ثُمَّ قَالَ «صُمْ صِيَامَ دَاوُدَ صُمْ يَوْمًا وَأَفْطِرْ يَوْمًا»

✧ I asked the Messenger of God ﷺ about fasting. He said, "Fast three days of every month." I said, "I am able to do more," until he debated with me. Then he said, "Fast three days of the month." I said, "I am able to do more," until he debated with me. Then he said, "Fast the fast of David: fast one day and break the fast one day."
