حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ ثنا ابْنُ عَوْنٍ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ

بَيْنَمَا سَعْدٌ يَمْشِي إِذْ مَرَّ بِرَجُلٍ وَهُوَ يَشْتِمُ عَلِيًّا وَطَلْحَةَ وَالزُّبَيْرَ فَقَالَ لَهُ سَعْدٌ «إِنَّكَ تَشْتِمُ قَوْمًا قَدْ سَبَقَ لَهُمُ مِنَ اللهِ مَا سَبَقَ فَوَاللهِ لَتَكُفَّنَّ عَنْ شَتْمِهِمْ أَوْ لَأَدْعُوَنَّ اللهَ ﷻ عَلَيْكَ» فَقَالَ تُخَوِّفُنِي كَأَنَّكَ نَبِيٌّ فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ «اللهُمَّ إِنَّ هَذَا يَشْتِمُ أَقْوَامًا سَبَقَ لَهُمْ مِنْكَ مَا سَبَقَ فَاجْعَلْهُ الْيَوْمَ نَكَالًا» فَجَاءَتْ بُخْتِيَّةٌ فَأَفْرَجَ النَّاسُ لَهَا فَتَخَبَّطَتْهُ فَرَأَيْتُ النَّاسَ يَتَّبِعُونَ سَعْدًا وَيَقُولُونَ اسْتَجَابَ اللهُ لَكَ يَا أَبَا إِسْحَاقَ

✧ While Saʿd was walking, he passed by a man who was reviling ʿAlī, Ṭalḥah, and al-Zubayr. Saʿd said to him, “You are reviling people for whom Allah has already decreed what He has decreed. By Allah, you must stop reviling them, or I will supplicate Allah ﷻ against you.” The man said, “You frighten me as if you were a prophet.” Saʿd said, “O Allah, this man reviles people for whom You have already decreed what You have decreed, so make him an example today.” Then a Bactrian camel came, the people made way for it, and it trampled him. I saw the people following Saʿd, saying, “May Allah answer your supplication, O Abū Isḥāq.”
