حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ

ثنا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ قَالَا ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ الطَّائِفِيُّ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي الطُّفَيْلِ عَامِرِ بْنِ وَاثِلَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ ؓ يَقُولُ إِنَّ الشَّقِيَّ مَنْ شَقِيَ فِي بَطْنِ أُمِّهِ وَإِنَّ السَّعِيدَ مَنْ وُعِظَ بِغَيْرِهِ فَأَتَيْتُ حُذَيْفَةَ بْنَ أَسِيدٍ فَقُلْتُ أَلَا تَعْجَبُ مِنْ قَوْلِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ؟ قَالَ وَمَا قَالَ؟ قَالَ إِنَّ الشَّقِيَّ مَنْ شَقِيَ فِي بَطْنِ أُمِّهِ وَإِنَّ السَّعِيدَ مَنْ وُعِظَ بِغَيْرِهِ قَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ أَنَا سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ إِذَا مَضَتْ عَلَى النُّطْفَةِ خَمْسٌ وَأَرْبَعُونَ لَيْلَةً قَالَ الْمَلَكُ أَذَكَرٌ أَمْ أُنْثَى؟ فَيَقْضِي اللهُ ﷻ وَيَكْتُبُ الْمَلَكُ فَيَقُولُ الْمَلَكُ أَشَقِيٌّ أَمْ سَعِيدٌ؟ فَيَقْضِي اللهُ وَيَكْتُبُ الْمَلَكُ قَالَ فَيَقُولُ رِزْقُهُ وَأَجَلُهُ وَعَمَلُهُ؟ قَالَ فَيَقْضِي اللهُ وَيَكْتُبُ الْمَلَكُ قَالَ ثُمَّ تُطْوَى الصَّحِيفَةُ فَلَا يُزَادُ فِيهَا وَلَا يُنْقَصُ مِنْهَا

✧ Al-Qaʿnabī narrated to us; and Yaḥyā b. ʿUthmān b. Ṣāliḥ narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh b. Yūsuf narrated to us. They both said: Muḥammad b. Muslim al-Ṭāʾifī narrated to us, from ʿAmr b. Dīnār, from Abū al-Ṭufayl ʿĀmir b. Wāthilah, who said: I heard ʿAbd Allāh b. Masʿūd ؓ saying: 'The wretched one is he who was wretched in his mother's womb, and the fortunate one is he who is admonished by another.' So I went to Ḥudhayfah b. Asīd and said: 'Do you not wonder at the saying of Ibn Masʿūd?' He said: 'And what did he say?' He said: 'The wretched one is he who was wretched in his mother's womb, and the fortunate one is he who is admonished by another.' Ḥudhayfah said: 'I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ saying: When forty-five nights have passed over the drop, the angel says: Male or female? God ﷻ decrees and the angel writes. Then the angel says: Wretched or fortunate? God decrees and the angel writes. He said: Then he says: What is its provision, its term, and its deeds? He said: God decrees and the angel writes. He said: Then the page is folded, and nothing is added to it or subtracted from it.'
