حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْهَبَّارِيُّ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُوَيْدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ قَالَ

«دَخَلْتُ عَلَى عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ وَإِذَا رَأْسُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ؓ قُدَّامَهُ عَلَى تُرْسٍ فَوَاللهِ مَا لَبِثْتُ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا حَتَّى دَخَلْتُ عَلَى الْمُخْتَارِ فَإِذَا رَأْسُ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَلَى تُرْسٍ فَوَاللهِ مَا لَبِثْتُ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا حَتَّى دَخَلْتُ عَلَى مُصْعَبِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ وَإِذَا رَأْسُ الْمُخْتَارِ عَلَى تُرْسٍ فَوَاللهِ مَا لَبِثْتُ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا حَتَّى دَخَلْتُ عَلَى عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ مَرْوَانَ وَإِذَا رَأْسُ مُصْعَبِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ عَلَى تُرْسٍ»

✧ "I entered upon Ubayd Allah b. Ziyad and there was the head of al-Husayn b. Ali ؓ before him on a shield. By Allah, I did not remain but a little while until I entered upon al-Mukhtar, and there was the head of Ubayd Allah b. Ziyad on a shield. By Allah, I did not remain but a little while until I entered upon Mus'ab b. al-Zubayr, and there was the head of al-Mukhtar on a shield. By Allah, I did not remain but a little while until I entered upon Abd al-Malik b. Marwan, and there was the head of Mus'ab b. al-Zubayr on a shield."
