حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الْحَفْرِيُّ عَنْ فِطْرِ بْنِ خَلِيفَةَ عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ عَنْ أَبِي إِدْرِيسَ عَنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ بْنِ نَجَبَةَ الْفَزَارِيِّ قَالَ
كُنَّا جُلُوسًا عِنْدَ عَلِيٍّ ؓ فَذَكَرُوا أَهْلَ بَيْتِهِ فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ ؓ «أَمَّا الْحَسَنُ فَلَا يُغْنِي عَنْكُمْ فِي الْحَرْبِ حِبَالَةَ عُصْفُورٍ وَأَمَّا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ فَصَاحِبُ ظِلٍّ وَخُوَانٍ وَأَمَّا حُسَيْنٌ فَإِنَّهُ مِنْكُمْ وَأَنْتُمْ مِنْهُ»

✧ We were sitting with Ali ؓ and they mentioned his household. Ali ؓ said: "As for al-Hasan, he will not avail you in war more than a sparrow's snare. As for Abdullah b. Jafar, he is a man of shade and a table. As for Husayn, he is of you and you are of him."
