✧ The lineage of Zubayr b. al-Awwam "Zubayr b. al-Awwam b. Khawilid b. Asad b. Abd al-Uzza b. Qusayy b. Kilab b. Murrah b. Ka'b b. Lu'ayy b. Ghalib b. Fihr b. Malik, known as Abu Abdullah, and his mother: Safiyyah bt. Abd al-Muttalib, the aunt of the Messenger.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو يَزِيدَ الْقَرَاطِيسِيُّ ثنا أَسَدُ بْنُ مُوسَى حَدَّثَنَا سِكِّينُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ الْبَصْرِيُّ ثنا حَفْصُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي شَيْخٌ قَدِمَ عَلَيْنَا مِنَ الْمَوْصِلِ قَالَ صَحِبْتُ الزُّبَيْرَ بْنَ الْعَوَّامِ فِي بَعْضِ أَسْفَارِهِ فَأَصَابَتْهُ جَنَابَةٌ بِأَرْضٍ قَفْرٍ فَقَالَ

اسْتُرْنِي فَسَتَرْتُهُ فَحَانَتْ مِنِّي الْتِفَاتَةٌ إِلَيْهِ فَرَأَيْتُهُ مُجَدَّعًا بِالسُّيُوفِ قُلْتُ وَاللهِ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ بِكَ آثَارًا مَا رَأَيْتُهَا بِأَحَدٍ قَطُّ قَالَ وَقَدْ رَأَيْتَ ذَلِكَ؟ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ «أَمَا وَاللهِ مَا مِنْهَا جِرَاحَةٌ إِلَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَفِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ ﷻ»

✧ I covered him, so I covered him. It occurred to me to glance at him, and I saw him mutilated with swords. I said, 'By Allah, I have seen marks on you that I have never seen on anyone else.' He said, 'And you have seen that?' I said, 'Yes.' He said, 'By Allah, there is no wound among them except that it was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and in the path of Allah, may He be exalted.'
