حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْأَزْدِيُّ ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ثنا زَائِدَةُ ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ حَسَّانٍ حَدَّثَتْنِي حَفْصَةُ بِنْتُ سِيرِينَ عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ قَالَتْ

أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِأَبِي وَأُمِّي أَنْ نُخْرِجَهُنَّ يَوْمَ الْفِطْرِ وَيَوْمَ النَّحْرِ الْعَوَاتِقَ وَذَوَاتِ الْخُدُورِ وَالْحُيَّضَ قَالَتْ فَأَمَّا الْحُيَّضُ فَيَعْتَزِلْنَ الْمُصَلَّى وَيَشْهَدْنَ الْخَيْرَ وَدَعْوَةَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ قَالَتْ فَقُلْنَا أَفَرَأَيْتَ إِحْدَاهُنَّ لَا يَكُونُ لَهَا الْجِلْبَابُ؟ قَالَ «تُلْبِسُهَا أُخْتُهَا مِنْ جِلْبَابِهَا» قَالَ هِشَامٌ سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدًا يَذْكُرُهُ عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ وَلَكِنِّي لِحَدِيثِ حَفْصَةَ أَحْفَظُ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ — may my father and mother be ransomed for him — commanded us to bring them out on the day of Fiṭr (breaking the fast) and the day of Naḥr (sacrifice): the young unmarried women, the secluded virgins, and the menstruating women. She said: As for the menstruating women, they keep away from the prayer place but witness the good and the supplication of the Muslims. She said: We said, “What do you think if one of them does not have a jilbāb (outer garment)?” He said, “Let her sister clothe her with one of her jilbābs.” Hishām said: I heard Muḥammad mention it from Umm ʿAṭiyyah, but I have better memory of Ḥafṣah’s ḥadīth.
