✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stayed overnight in my house on the night he was taken on the Night Journey. I missed him during the night, and sleep was withheld from me for fear that some of Quraysh had waylaid him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Jibril came to me, took me by the hand, and brought me out. There, at the house, was a riding beast, smaller than a mule and larger than a donkey. He mounted me upon it, then departed until he brought me to Jerusalem. He showed me Ibrahim, whose physical appearance resembled mine and mine resembled his. He showed me Musa, dark-skinned, tall, with lank hair; I likened him to the men of Azd Shanu'ah. He showed me 'Isa son of Maryam, of medium height, fair with a reddish tinge; I likened him to 'Urwah b. Mas'ud al-Thaqafi. He showed me the Dajjal, his right eye obliterated; I likened him to Qatan b. 'Abd al-'Uzza. I wanted to go out to Quraysh and tell them what I had seen, but she took hold of his garment and said, "I remind you of Allah: you will go to a people who will reject you and deny your words, and I fear they will assault you." She said: He pulled his garment from my hand, then went out to them. He came to them while they were sitting and told them what he had told me. Jubayr b. Mut'im stood up and said, "O Muhammad, if I were the young man I used to be, you would not have uttered this while you are among us!" A man from the people said, "O Muhammad, did you pass by camels of ours in such-and-such a place?" He said, "Yes, by Allah, I found them; they had lost a camel of theirs and were searching for it." He said, "Did you pass by the camels of Banu so-and-so?" He said, "Yes, in such-and-such a place; a red she-camel of theirs had broken down, and I found them with a wooden bowl of water, and I drank what was in it." They said, "Tell us their number and how many herdsmen were among them." He said, "I was too preoccupied to note their number." Then he left. The camels were brought, and he counted them and learned how many herdsmen were among them. Then he came to Quraysh and said, "You asked me about the camels of Banu so-and-so: they are such-and-such, and among their herdsmen are so-and-so and so-and-so. You asked me about the camels of Banu so-and-so: they are such-and-such, and among their herdsmen are Ibn Abi Quhafah and so-and-so and so-and-so. They will reach you in the morning at the mountain pass." So they went early to the pass to see if he had spoken the truth. They met the camels and asked, "Did a camel of yours go astray?" They said, "Yes." They asked the other group, "Did a red she-camel of yours break down?" They said, "Yes." They said, "Did you have a wooden bowl?" Abu Bakr said, "By Allah, I placed it there, and no one drank from it or poured it on the ground." Abu Bakr confirmed him and believed in him, and from that day he was called al-Siddiq.
