✧ Ibn Amir said: 'Narrate to me a hadith you heard from the Messenger of God ﷺ without attributing it to anyone other than yourself.' She said, 'If you wish, I will do so.' He said to her, 'Yes, narrate to me.' She said, 'I heard the call of the caller of the Messenger of God ﷺ announcing that prayer was to be held in congregation. I went out to the mosque and prayed with the Messenger of God ﷺ, and I was in the row of women that was next to the backs of the men. When the Messenger of God ﷺ finished his prayer, he sat on the pulpit, smiling. He said, "Let every person remain in his prayer place." Then he said, "Do you know why I have gathered you?" They said, "God and His Messenger know best." He said, "By God, I have not gathered you for desire or fear, but I gathered you because Tamim al-Dari was a Christian man. He came, pledged allegiance, and accepted Islam, and he told me a report that agreed with what I used to tell you about the Messiah of the Dajjal. He told me that he sailed in a seafaring ship with thirty men from Lakhm and Judham, and the waves played with them for a month in the sea. Then they were cast onto an island in the sea at the setting of the sun. They sat in the ship's boat and entered the island, and they were met by a shaggy creature, very hairy, whose front could not be distinguished from its back because of the abundance of hair. They said, "Woe to you! What are you?" It said, "I am al-Jassasa." They said, "What is al-Jassasa?" It said, "O people, go to this man in the monastery, for he is longing for news of you." He said, 'When it named a man to us, we were alarmed that it might be a she-devil. We went quickly until we entered the monastery, and in it was the largest human being we had ever seen in creation and the most tightly bound, with his hands gathered to his neck and from his knees to his ankles with iron. We said, "Woe to you! What are you?" He said, "You have attained my news, so tell me what you are." They said, "People from the Arabs. We sailed in a seafaring ship and encountered the sea when it was raging, and the waves played with us for a month. Then they cast us onto this island of yours. We sat in its boat and entered the island, and we met a shaggy creature, very hairy, whose front we could not distinguish from its back because of the abundance of hair. We said, "Woe to you! What are you?" It said, "I am al-Jassasa." We said, "What is al-Jassasa?" It said, "Go to this man, for he is longing for news of you." So we came to you quickly, and we were alarmed by it and did not feel safe that it might be a she-devil." He said, "Tell me about the date palms of Baysan." We said, "About which of their affairs do you ask?" He said, "I ask you about its palms: do they bear fruit?" We said to him, "Yes." He said, "Indeed, it is near that they will not bear fruit." He said, "Tell me about the lake of Tiberias." We said, "About which of its affairs do you ask?" He said, "Is there water in it?" We said, "It has much water." He said, "Tell me about the spring of Zughar." They said, "About which of its affairs do you ask?" He said, "Is there water in the spring, and do its people cultivate with the spring water?" We said, "Yes, and it has much water, and its people cultivate with its water." He said, "Tell me about the unlettered Prophet: what has happened?" They said, "He came out from Makkah and settled in Yathrib." He said, "Did the Arabs fight him?" We said, "Yes." He said, "What did he do with them?" We told him that he prevailed over the Arabs near him and they obeyed him. He said to them, "Has that happened?" We said, "Yes." He said, "Indeed, that is better for them, that they should do that and obey him. I am going to tell you about myself: I am the Messiah, and it is near that I will be permitted to come out. I will come out and travel through the earth, and I will not leave any town but that I will descend upon it in forty nights, except Makkah and Taybah, for they are forbidden to me. Every time I want to enter one of them, an angel meets me with a drawn sword, repelling me from it. And on every mountain pass there are angels guarding them." The Messenger of God ﷺ struck the pulpit with his staff and said, "This is Taybah, this is Taybah, this is Taybah, meaning al-Madinah. Did I not tell you that?" The people said, "Yes." He said, "What pleased me about the report of Tamim al-Dari is that it agreed with what I used to tell you about him, and about al-Madinah and Makkah. Indeed, he is in the sea of Syria or the sea of Yemen. Nay, rather from the direction of the east. He is from the direction of the east. He is from the direction of the east. He is from the direction of the east." And he pointed with his hand to the east. She said, 'I memorized this from the Messenger of God ﷺ.'
