✧ One day he came in to me and spoke to me about something while he was somewhat vexed, so I answered him back, and he said, 'You are to me like my mother's back.' Then he went out and sat down; then he called his people, then he returned to me and wanted me for himself, but I refused him. He struggled with me and I struggled with him, and I overcame him as a woman overcomes a weak man. I said, 'No, by the One in Whose hand is the soul of Khuwaylah, you will not reach her until Allah judges between me and you.' So I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ complaining to him about what I had encountered from him. He said, 'Your husband and your cousin; fear Allah.' Then Allah revealed: {Allah has heard the statement of she who disputes with you concerning her husband and complains to Allah} until it reached the expiation. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Order him to free a slave.' I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, he has no slave to free.' He said, 'Then let him fast two consecutive months.' I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, he is an old man; by Allah, he is not able to fast.' He said, 'Then let him feed sixty poor people.' I said, 'By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, he does not have anything to feed.' He said, 'Rather, we will help him with a basket of dates—and the basket is a large measure that holds thirty sāʿs.' I said, 'And I will help him with another basket.' He said, 'You have done well; order him to give it in charity.'
