حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا الْمُحَارِبِيُّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ كِلَاهُمَا عَنْ لَيْثٍ عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ يَزِيدَ قَالَتْ
كُنَّا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَأُتِيَ بِشَرَابٍ فَشَرِبَ ثُمَّ أَعْطَى الْقَوْمَ فَشَرِبُوا فَمَرَّ الْإِنَاءُ عَلَى رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ فَقَالَ «إِنِّي صَائِمٌ» فَقَالَ بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ إِنَّهُ لَا يُفْطِرُ إِنَّهُ يَصُومُ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «لَا صَامَ وَلَا أَفْطَرَ مَنْ صَامَ الْأَبَدَ»

✧ We were with the Prophet ﷺ one day when a drink was brought. He drank, then gave it to the people and they drank. The vessel passed by a man among the people, and he said: “I am fasting.” Some of the people said: “He does not break his fast; he fasts every day.” The Prophet ﷺ said: “He has neither fasted nor broken his fast—the one who fasts perpetually.”
