حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْحَرَّانِيُّ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْبَابِلْتِيُّ ثنا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي قَتَادَةَ حَدَّثَنِي شَهْرُ بْنُ حَوْشَبٍ حَدَّثَتْنِي أَسْمَاءُ بِنْتُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ السَّكَنِ وَهِيَ بِنْتُ عَمِّ مُعَاذٍ قَالَتْ
أَتَانِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي طَائِفَةٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فَذَكَرَ الدَّجَّالَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ قَبْلَ خُرُوجِهِ ثَلَاثَ سِنِينَ أَوْ سَنَةً تُمْسِكُ السَّمَاءُ ثُلُثَ قَطْرِهَا وَتُمْسِكُ الْأَرْضُ ثُلُثَ نَبَاتِهَا وَالسَّنَةَ الثَّانِيَةَ تُمْسِكُ السَّمَاءُ ثُلُثَيَّ قَطْرِهَا وَتُمْسِكُ الْأَرْضُ ثُلُثَيَّ نَبَاتِهَا وَالسَّنَةَ الثَّالِثَةَ تُمْسِكُ السَّمَاءُ مَا فِيهَا وَالْأَرْضُ مَا فِيهَا فَيَهْلِكَ كُلُّ ذَاتِ ضِرْسٍ وظِلْفٍ وَمِنْ أَشَدِّ فِتْنَتِهِ أَنَّهُ يَقُولُ لِلْأَعْرَابِيِّ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ أَحْيَيْتُ لَكَ إِبِلَكَ عَظِيمَةً ضُرُوعُهَا طَوِيلَةً أَسْنِمَتُهَا بَحْتَرٌ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي رَبُّكَ؟ فَيَقُولُ نَعَمْ فَيََتَمََثَّلُ لَهُ الشَّيْطَانُ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِبَعْضِ حَاجَتِهِ وَوَضَعْتُ لَهُ وُضُوءَهُ وانْتَحَبَ الْقَوْمُ حَتَّى ارْتَفَعَتْ أَصْوَاتُهُمْ فَأَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْبَابَ فَقَالَ «مَهْيَمْ؟» فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ خَلَعْتَ قُلُوبَهُمْ بِالدَّجَّالِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنْ يَخْرُجِ الدَّجَّالُ وَأَنَا حَيٌّ فَأَنَا حَجِيجُهُ وَإِنْ مِتُّ فَإِنَّ اللهَ خَلِيفَتِي عَلَى كُلِّ مُؤْمِنٍ» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَمَا يُجْزِئُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَوْمَئِذٍ؟ قَالَ «يُجْزِئُهُمْ مَا يُجْزِئُ أَهْلَ السَّمَاءِ التَّسْبِيحَ وَالتَّقْدِيسَ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me with a group of his Companions and mentioned the Dajjal. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Before his emergence there will be three years—or a year—when the sky withholds a third of its rain and the earth withholds a third of its vegetation; the second year the sky withholds two thirds of its rain and the earth withholds two thirds of its vegetation; the third year the sky withholds all that is in it and the earth all that is in it, and every creature with molars and cloven hooves will perish. Among the worst of his trials is that he will say to a Bedouin: 'If I revive your camels for you, with huge udders and tall humps, will you know that I am your Lord?' He will say yes, and the devil will appear to him in that form." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out for some need, and I prepared water for his ablution. The people sobbed until their voices grew loud. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took hold of the door and said: "What is this?" We said: "O Messenger of Allah, you have terrified their hearts with the Dajjal." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "If the Dajjal emerges while I am alive, I will contend with him on your behalf; and if I die, Allah is my successor over every believer." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, what will suffice the believers on that day?" He said: "What suffices the inhabitants of heaven: glorification (tasbih) and sanctification (taqdis)."
