✧ “I was once on a piece of land that the Prophet of God ﷺ had allotted to Abu Salama and al-Zubayr from the land of al-Nadir. Al-Zubayr had gone out with the Messenger of God ﷺ. We had a Jewish neighbor who slaughtered a sheep and cooked it. I smelled its aroma, and the smell of meat affected me as nothing had ever affected me before, while I was pregnant with a daughter of mine called Khadija. I could not bear it, so I went and entered upon his wife to borrow some fire from her, in the hope that she might feed me, though I had no need of fire. When I smelled its aroma and saw it, my desire increased, so I put it out. Then I came a second time to borrow fire for the same reason, then a third time. When I saw that, I sat down weeping and calling upon God. Then the Jewish woman’s husband came and said: Did anyone enter upon you? She said: No, except the Arab woman who came to borrow fire. He said: Then I will never eat of it unless you send some of it to her. So she sent me a qadha, and there was nothing on earth more pleasing to me than that morsel. Ibn Bukayr said: “Al-qadha (the bowl) is araqa (a portion of meat).”
