حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنِي مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ قَالَ حَدَّثَتْنِي زَيْنَبُ بِنْتُ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَتْ
سَمِعَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ جَلَبَ خُصُومَةٍ عِنْدَ بَابِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ «إِنَّكُمْ تَخْتَصِمُونَ إِلَيَّ وَإِنَّمَا أَنَا بَشَرٌ وَلَعَلَّ بَعْضَكُمْ أَنْ يَكُونَ أَعْلَمَ بِحُجَّتِهِ مِنْ بَعْضٍ فَأَقْضِي لَهُ بِمَا أَسْمَعُ وَأَظُنُّهُ صَادِقًا فَمَنْ قَضَيْتُ لَهُ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ حَقِّ أَخِيهِ فَإِنَّهَا قِطْعَةٌ مِنَ النَّارِ فَلْيَأْخُذْهَا أَوْ لِيَدَعْهَا»

✧ The Prophet ﷺ heard the clamor of a dispute at the door of Umm Salamah, so he went out to them and said, “You bring disputes to me, but I am only a human being. Perhaps one of you is more eloquent in presenting his argument than another, so I rule in his favor according to what I hear and what I think is truthful. Whoever I rule in favor of with something from his brother's right, it is a piece of the Fire; let him take it or leave it.”
