حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الدِّمْيَاطِيُّ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ هَاشِمٍ الْبَيْرُوتِيُّ ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي كَرِيمَةَ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ حَسَّانَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ أُمِّهِ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَتْ
قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ قَوْلِ اللهِ {حُورٌ عِينٌ} قَالَ حُورٌ بِيضٌ عِينٌ ضِخَامُ الْعُيُونِ شُقْرُ الْجَرْدَاءِ بِمَنْزِلَةِ جَنَاحِ النُّسُورِ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ قَوْلِهِ {كَأَنَّهُمْ لُؤْلُؤٌ مَكْنُونٌ} قَالَ «صَفَاؤُهُنَّ صَفَاءُ الدُّرِّ فِي الْأَصْدَافِ الَّتِي لَمْ تَمَسَّهُ الْأَيْدِي» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ قَوْلِهِ {فِيهِنَّ خَيْرَاتٌ حِسَانٌ} قَالَ «خَيْرَاتُ الْأَخْلَاقِ حِسَانُ الْوُجُوهِ» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ قَوْلِهِ {كَأَنَّهُنَّ بَيْضٌ مَكْنُونٌ} قَالَ «رِقَّتُهُنَّ كَرِقَّةِ الْجِلْدِ الَّذِي رَأَيْتِ فِي دَاخِلِ الْبَيْضَةِ مِمَّا يَلِي الْقِشْرَ وَهُوَ الْعُرْفِيُّ» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ قَوْلِهِ {عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًا} قَالَ «هُنَّ اللَّوَاتِي قُبِضْنَ فِي دَارِ الدُّنْيَا عَجَائِزَ رَمْضَاءَ شَمْطَاءَ خَلَقَهُنَّ اللهُ بَعْدَ الْكِبَرِ فَجَعَلَهُنَّ عَذَارَى عُرُبًا مُتَعَشَّقَاتٍ مُحَبَّبَاتٍ أَتْرَابًا عَلَى مِيلَادٍ وَاحِدٍ» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَنِسَاءُ الدُّنْيَا أَفْضَلُ أَمِ الْحُورُ الْعِينُ؟ قَالَ «بَلْ نِسَاءُ الدُّنْيَا أَفْضَلُ مِنَ الْحُورِ الْعِينِ كَفَضْلِ الظِّهَارَةِ عَلَى الْبِطَانَةِ» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَبِمَا ذَاكَ؟ قَالَ بِصَلَاتِهِنَّ وَصِيَامِهِنَّ وَعِبَادَتِهِنَّ اللهَ أَلْبَسَ اللهُ وُجُوهَهُنَّ النُّورَ وَأَجْسَادَهُنَّ الْحَرِيرَ بِيضَ الْأَلْوَانِ خُضْرَ الثِّيَابِ صَفْرَاءَ الْحُلِيِّ مَجَامِرُهُنَّ الدُّرُّ وَأَمْشَاطُهُنَّ الذَّهَبُ يَقُلْنَ أَلَا نَحْنُ الْخَالِدَاتُ فَلَا نَمُوتُ أَبَدًا أَلَا وَنَحْنُ النَّاعِمَاتُ فَلَا نَبْؤُسُ أَبَدًا أَلَا وَنَحْنُ الْمُقِيمَاتُ فَلَا نَظْعَنُ أَبَدًا أَلَا وَنَحْنُ الرَّاضِيَاتُ فَلَا نَسْخَطُ أَبَدًا طُوبَى لِمَنْ كُنَّا لَهُ وَكَانَ لَنَا قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ الْمَرْأَةُ مِنَّا تَتَزَوَّجُ الزَّوْجَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةَ وَالْأَرْبَعَةَ ثُمَّ تَمُوتُ فَتَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ وَيَدْخُلُونَ مَعَهَا مَنْ يَكُونُ زَوْجُهَا؟ قَالَ يَا أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ إِنَّهَا تُخَيَّرُ فَتَخْتَارُ أَحْسَنَهُمْ خُلُقًا فَتَقُولُ أَيْ رَبِّ إِنَّ هَذَا كَانَ أَحْسَنَهُمْ مَعِي خُلُقًا فِي دَارِ الدُّنْيَا فَزَوِّجْنِيهِ يَا أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ ذَهَبَ حُسْنُ الْخُلُقِ بِخَيْرِ الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ

✧ I said: "O Messenger of Allah, tell me about Allah's saying: {Hūr ʿīn}." He said: "Hūr: white ones; ʿīn: wide-eyed. Their whiteness is like the inner side of a vulture's wing." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, tell me about His saying: {as though they were hidden pearls}." He said: "Their purity is like the purity of pearls inside shells, untouched by hands." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, tell me about His saying: {in them are good and beautiful ones}." He said: "Good in character, beautiful in faces." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, tell me about His saying: {as though they were hidden eggs}." He said: "Their delicacy is like the delicacy of the membrane you have seen inside the egg, next to the shell, which is the outer layer." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, tell me about His saying: {loving, equal in age}." He said: "They are those who were taken in this world as old, sun-darkened, white-haired women. After old age, Allah created them anew and made them virgins, loving, affectionate, beloved, equal in age, born at the same time." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, are the women of this world better or the hūr al-ʿīn?" He said: "The women of this world are better than the hūr al-ʿīn, like the outer garment is better than the lining." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, and why is that?" He said: "Because of their prayers, their fasting, and their worship of Allah. Allah clothes their faces with light and their bodies with silk. They are white in color, green in garments, yellow in jewelry. Their censers are pearls and their combs are gold. They say: 'We are the immortal ones, never dying. We are the blissful ones, never distressed. We are the residents, never departing. We are the content ones, never discontented. Glad tidings to the one for whom we are and who is for us.'" I said: "O Messenger of Allah, a woman among us marries two, three, or four husbands, then dies and enters Paradise, and they enter with her. Who will be her husband?" He said: "O Umm Salamah, she will be given a choice, and she will choose the one who had the best character. She will say: 'O Lord, this one had the best character with me in this world, so marry me to him.' O Umm Salamah, good character takes away the good of this world and the Hereafter."
