حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ثنا شَرِيكٌ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَتْ
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مِنْ أَصْحَابِي مَنْ لَا يَرَانِي بَعْدَ أَنْ أَمُوتَ أَبَدًا» فَجَاءَ عُمَرُ فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا فَقَالَ أَنْشُدُكِ اللهَ أَنَا مِنْهُمْ؟ قَالَتْ لَا وَلَا أُزَكِّي أَحَدًا بَعْدَكَ أَبَدًا فَبَكَى عُمَرُ ؓ

✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Among my companions are those who will never see me after I die." Then 'Umar came and entered upon her and said: "I adjure you by Allah, am I one of them?" She said: "No, and I will never vouch for anyone after you." So 'Umar ؓ wept.
