حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ الْقَاضِي ثنا ابْنُ كَثِيرٍ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَالَ قَالَتْ
أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَا نُقْطَعُ الْمِيرَاثَ وَلَا نُقَاتِلُ فَنُسْتَشْهَدُ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ {وَلَا تَتَمَنَّوْا مَا فَضَّلَ اللهُ بِهِ بَعْضَكُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ} إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ ثُمَّ نَزَلَتْ {أَنِّي لَا أُضِيعُ عَمَلَ عَامِلٍ مِنْكُمْ مِنْ ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنْثَى}

✧ Umm Salamah said: "O Messenger of Allah, we are not given a share of inheritance nor do we fight and become martyrs." Then Allah revealed: {And do not wish for that by which Allah has made some of you exceed others} until the end of the verse. Then it was revealed: {Indeed, I do not allow to be lost the work of any worker among you, whether male or female}.
