حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ صَدَقَةَ وَحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْخَيَّاطُ قَالَا ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَنْبَسَةَ ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ ثنا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ عَنْ عَوْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَتْ
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ يُصَابُ بِمُصِيبَةٍ فَيَقُولُ إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ اللهُمَّ عِنْدَكَ أَحْتَسِبُ مُصِيبَتِي فَأْجُرْنِي فِيهَا وَاعْقُبْنِي مِنْهَا خَيْرًا إِلَّا آجَرَهُ اللهُ فِي مُصِيبَتِهِ فَأَعْقَبَهُ اللهُ خَيْرًا مِنْهَا»

✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "There is no servant who is afflicted with a calamity and says: 'Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return. O Allah, with You I seek reward for my calamity, so reward me in it and give me something better in its place,' except that Allah will reward him in his calamity and give him something better than it."
