حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ الصَّنْعَانِيُّ ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أُمِّ حَبِيبَةَ قَالَتْ

دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ هَلْ لَكَ فِي أُخْتِي بِنْتِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «فَأَفْعَلُ مَاذَا؟» قُلْتُ فَتَنْكِحُهَا قَالَ «أُخْتَكِ؟» قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ «أَوَ تُحِبِّينَ ذَلِكَ؟» قُلْتُ نَعَمْ لَسْتُ بِمُخْلِيَةٍ وَأَحَبُّ مَنْ شَرِكَنِي فِي خَيْرٍ أُخْتِي قَالَ «إِنَّهَا لَا تَحِلُّ لِي» قُلْتُ وَاللهِ لَقَدْ أُنْبِئْتُ أَنَّكَ تَخْطُبُ بِنْتَ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ قَالَ «بِنْتَ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ؟» قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ «وَاللهِ لَوْ لَمْ تَكُنْ رَبِيبَتِي فِي حِجْرِي مَا حَلَّتْ لِي إِنَّهَا بِنْتُ أَخِي مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ أَرْضَعَتْنِي وَإِيَّاهَا ثُوَيْبَةُ فَلَا تَعْرِضْنَ عَلَيَّ بَنَاتِكُنَّ وَأَخَوَاتِكُنَّ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ, entered upon me, so I said, "Do you have any interest in my sister, the daughter of Abu Sufyan?" The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ, said, "What would you do?" I said, "I want to marry her." He asked, "Your sister?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Do you really want that?" I said, "Yes, I am not compelled, and I love whoever you choose for me, even if it is my sister." He said, "She is not permissible for me." I said, "By Allah, I have been informed that you are proposing to marry the daughter of Abu Salama." He asked, "The daughter of Abu Salama?" I said, "Yes." He said, "By Allah, if she was not my stepdaughter, she would not have been lawful for me. She is the daughter of my brother through breastfeeding, and Thawiba breastfed both me and her. Therefore, do not present your daughters and sisters to me."
