حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ ثنا ابْنُ عَائِشَةَ ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أُمِّ حَبِيبَةَ

أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَلْ لَكَ فِي حَمْنَةَ بِنْتِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ قَالَ «أَصْنَعُ مَاذَا؟» قَالَتْ تَنْكِحُهَا قَالَ «فَهَلْ تَحِلُّ لِي؟» قَالَتْ وَاللهِ لَقَدْ أُخْبِرْتُ أَنَّكَ تَخْطُبُ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتَ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ قَالَ «أَرَبِيبَتِي فِي حِجْرِي فَوَاللهِ لَوْ لَمْ تَكُنْ رَبِيبَتِي فِي حِجْرِي إِنَّهَا لَابْنَةُ أَخِي أَرْضَعَتْنِي وَإِيَّاهَا ثُوَيْبَةُ فَلَا تَعْرِضْنَ عَلَيَّ بَنَاتِكُنَّ وَلَا أَخَوَاتِكُنَّ وَلَا أُمَّهَاتِكُنَّ»

✧ She said: "O Messenger of God, would you be interested in Hamnah bint Abi Sufyan?" He said: "What would I do?" She said: "Marry her." He said: "Would she be lawful to me?" She said: "By God, I have been told that you are seeking Zaynab bint Abi Salamah in marriage." He said: "My stepdaughter in my care? By God, even if she were not my stepdaughter in my care, she is the daughter of my brother. Thuwaybah nursed me and her. So do not offer me your daughters, your sisters, or your mothers."
