حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْخَفَّافُ الْمِصْرِيُّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ثنا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ أَنَّ عُرْوَةَ بْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ أَنَّ أُمَّ حَبِيبَةَ قَالَتْ

لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ انْكِحْ بِنْتَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ لِأُخْتِهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَوَ تُحِبِّينَ ذَلِكَ؟» قَالَتْ نَعَمْ لَسْتُ لَكَ بِمُخْلِيَةٍ وَأَحَبُّ مَنْ شَارَكَنِي فِي خَيْرٍ أُخْتِي فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «فَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ لَا يَحِلُّ» قَالَتْ أُمُّ حَبِيبَةَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَقَدْ تُحَدِّثَ أَنَّكَ نَاكِحٌ دُرَّةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «بِنْتَ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ؟» قَالَتْ أُمُّ حَبِيبَةَ نَعَمْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَوْ أَنَّهَا لَمْ تَكُنْ رَبِيبَتِي فِي حِجْرِي مَا حَلَّتْ لِأَنَّهَا بِنْتُ أَخِي مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ أَرْضَعَتْنِي أَنَا وَأَبَا سَلَمَةَ ثُوَيْبَةُ فَلَا تَعْرِضْنَ عَلَيَّ بَنَاتِكُنَّ وَلَا أَخَوَاتِكُ»

✧ It was said to the Prophet ﷺ: 'Marry the daughter of Abū Sufyān,' meaning her sister. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Would you like that?' She said, 'Yes, I am not the only one for you, and the dearest of those who share good with me is my sister.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'That is not lawful.' Umm Ḥabībah said, 'O Messenger of Allah, it has been said that you are marrying Durrah bt. Abī Salamah.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The daughter of Umm Salamah?' Umm Ḥabībah said, 'Yes.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Even if she were not my stepdaughter under my care, she would not be lawful, for she is the daughter of my brother through suckling. Thuwaybah suckled me and Abū Salamah. So do not offer me your daughters or your sisters.'
