✧ Translation: Interpretation of His saying, "If only you had heard it" (the verse)

حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرٌ ثنا عَبْدُ الْغَنِيِّ ثنا مُوسَى عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ وَعَنْ مُقَاتِلِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ

عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ {إِذْ تَلَقَّوْنَهُ بِأَلْسِنَتِكُمْ وَتَقُولُونَ بِأَفْوَاهِكُمْ مَا لَيْسَ لَكُمْ بِهِ عِلْمٌ} يَقُولُ «يَعْلَمُ اللهُ خِلَافَهُ» {وَتَحْسَبُونَهُ هَيِّنًا وَهُوَ عِنْدَ اللهِ عَظِيمٌ} يَقُولُ «إِنْ تَرْمُوا سَيِّدَةَ نِسَاءِ أُمَّهَاتِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَزَوْجَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَتَنْسُبُونَهَا بِمَا لَمْ يَكُنْ فِيهَا وَلَمْ يَقَعْ فِي قَلْبِهَا قَطُّ وَأَنَا خَلَقْتُهَا طَيِّبَةً وَعَصَمْتُهَا مِنْ كُلِّ قَبِيحٍ»

✧ From Ibn Abbas: "{When you received it with your tongues and said with your mouths that of which you had no knowledge} He says: 'Allah knows the opposite of it.' {And you thought it was insignificant while it was, in the sight of Allah, tremendous.} He says: 'You slandered the mistress of the women, the mother of the believers, the wife of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and attributed to her what was not in her and never entered her heart. I created her pure and protected her from every indecency.'"
