✧ Interpretation of the verse of Allah: "{And who turns away due to his arrogance}

حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ ثنا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ النَّرْسِيُّ ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ

عَنْ قَتَادَةَ فِي قَوْلِهِ {لَوْلَا إِذْ سَمِعْتُمُوهُ} «كَذَّبْتُمْ وَقُلْتُمْ هَذَا كَذِبٌ مُبِينٌ وَلَعَمْرِي أَنْ لَا تَكْذِبَ عَنْ أَخِيكَ الْمُسْلِمِ بِالشَّرِّ إِذَا سَمِعْتَهُ خَيْرٌ لَكَ وَأَسْلَمُ مِنْ أَنْ تُذِيعَهُ وَتُفْشِيهِ وَتُصَدِّقُ بِهِ»

Translation

✧ From Qatadah regarding His saying: {Why, when you heard it, did you not say, "It is not for us to speak of this. Exalted are You, O Allah; this is a great slander?"} He said: "You should say, 'You have lied,' and say, 'This is a clear lie.' By my life, not to repeat evil about your Muslim brother when you hear it is better for you and safer than spreading it, broadcasting it, and believing it."
