✧ Umm Mistah entered upon me, and we went out to Hayr 'Ad. Umm Mistah stepped on a bone or a thorn and said, “May Mistah perish.” I said, “What a bad thing you have said about a man from the Companions of the Messenger of God ﷺ.” She said, “I bear witness that you are among the heedless believing women. Do you know what has flown upon you?” I said, “No, by God.” She said, “How long has it been since the Messenger of God was with you?” I said, “The Messenger of God does with his wives whatever he wishes; he begins with whichever of them he wishes and comes to whichever he wishes.” She said, “Verily he has closed over you such-and-such.” I fell down in a faint. It reached Umm Ruman, my mother, and when the matter reached her, she came to me, carried me, and took me to her house. It reached the Messenger of God that Aisha had heard of the matter, so he came to her, entered upon her, sat beside her, and said, “O Aisha, God has made repentance ample.” This only increased my distress beyond what I already had. While we were like that, Abu Bakr came, entered upon me, and said, “O Messenger of God, what are you waiting for regarding this one who betrayed you and disgraced me?” She said, “This increased my distress upon distress.” She said, “Then he sent for Ali and said, ‘O Ali, what do you think regarding Aisha?’ He said, ‘God and His Messenger know best.’ He said, ‘You must tell me what you think regarding Aisha.’ He said, ‘God has given women ample alternatives, but send for Burayrah, her servant, and ask her; perhaps she has become aware of something of her affair.’ So he sent for Burayrah, and she came. He said to her, ‘Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of God?’ She said, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘Then I will ask you about something, so do not hide it from me.’ She said, ‘Yes, O Messenger of God. There is nothing you ask me about except that I will inform you of it, and I will not hide from you anything, God willing.’ He said, ‘You have been with Aisha, so have you seen anything of her that you dislike?’ She said, ‘No, by the One who sent you with prophethood. I have not seen anything from her since I have been with her except one trait.’ He said, ‘And what is it?’ She said, ‘I kneaded dough for myself and said to Aisha, “Guard this dough until I fetch a firebrand and bake.” She got up to pray and became heedless of the dough, then a sheep came and ate it.’ Then he sent for Usamah and said, ‘O Usamah, what do you think regarding Aisha?’ He said, ‘God and His Messenger know best.’ He said, ‘You must tell me what you think about her.’ He said, ‘Then I think you should keep her until God brings about something for you regarding her.’ She said, ‘It was only a short while before revelation descended, and joy kept being seen on the face of the Messenger of God ﷺ, and her vindication came from heaven, meaning from God. The Messenger of God said, “Rejoice, O Aisha, then rejoice, O Aisha, for God has informed me of your vindication.” I said, “Without praise from you or your companion.” She said, “At that point I spoke. And when he came to her, he used to say, ‘How is that one of yours?’”
