حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ أَبِي الرَّطِيلِ ثنا حَبِيبُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْأَسَدِيُّ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

تُوُفِّيَتْ زَيْنَبُ بِنْتُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَخَرَجْنَا مَعَهُ فَرَأَيْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ مُهْتَمًّا شَدِيدَ الْحُزْنِ فَقُلْنَا لَا نُكَلِّمَهُ حَتَّى انْتَهَيْنَا إِلَى الْقَبْرِ فَإِذَا هُوَ لَمْ يَفْرُغْ مِنْ لَحْدِهِ فَقَعَدَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَقَعَدْنَا حَوْلَهُ فَحَدَّثَ نَفْسَهُ هُنَيْهَةً وَجَعَلَ يَنْظُرُ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ ثُمَّ فَرَغَ مِنَ الْقَبْرِ فَنَزَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِيهِ فَرَأَيْتُهُ يَزْدَادُ حُزْنًا ثُمَّ إِنَّهُ فَرَغَ فَخَرَجَ فَرَأَيْتُهُ سُرَّ عَنْهُ فَتَبَسَّمَ فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ رَأَيْنَاكَ مُهْتَمًّا حَزِينًا لَمْ نَسْتَطِعْ أَنْ نُكَلِّمَكَ ثُمَّ رَأَيْنَاكَ سُرَّ عَنْكَ فَمِمَّ ذَاكَ؟ قَالَ «كُنْتُ أَذْكُرُ ضِيقَ الْقَبْرِ وَغَمَّهُ وَضَعْفَ زَيْنَبَ فَكَانَ ذَلِكَ شَقَّ عَلَيَّ فَدَعَوْتُ اللهَ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ عَنْهَا فَفَعَلَ وَلَقَدْ ضُغِطَتْ ضَغْطَةً سَمِعَهَا مَنْ بَيْنَ الْخَافِقَيْنِ إِلَّا الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنْسَ»

✧ Zaynab bt. the Messenger of God ﷺ died, and we went out with him. We saw the Messenger of God ﷺ deeply troubled and intensely sad. We said, “We will not speak to him” until we reached the grave, and he had not yet finished its niche. The Messenger of God ﷺ sat down and we sat around him, and he spoke to himself for a little while and kept looking at the sky. Then the grave was finished, and the Messenger of God ﷺ went down into it. I saw him become even sadder. Then he finished and came out, and I saw that he was relieved and smiled. We said, “O Messenger of God, we saw you troubled and sad, and we could not speak to you, and then we saw you relieved. What was that?” He said, “I was remembering the narrowness of the grave and its distress and the weakness of Zaynab, and that was hard for me, so I called upon God to lighten it for her, and He did. She was squeezed with a squeeze that was heard by all between the two horizons except jinn and humans.”
