✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The grave says to the dead person when he is placed in it: ‘Woe to you, son of Adam! What deceived you about me? Did you not know that I am the house of trial, the house of darkness, the house of solitude, and the house of worms? What deceived you about me when you used to pass by me strutting (faddadan)?’ If he was righteous, an advocate of the grave answers on his behalf, saying: ‘What do you think if he was one of those who enjoined good and forbade evil?’ The grave then says: ‘Then I will return to him as greenery, and his body will return as light, and his soul will ascend to the Lord of the Worlds.’” A man said: “O Abu al-Hajjaj, what is al-faddad?” He said: “The one who strides forward with one foot and drags the other, like your walk, O son of my brother, at times; and at that time he was dressing and adorning himself.”
