حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ وعَبْدَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ قَالَا ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ قَالَ ثنا أسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ ثنا هُرَيْمُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ بَيَانَ عَنْ قَيْسِ بَنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي شَهْمٍ قَالَ

كُنْتُ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فَمَرَّتْ بِي امْرَأَةٌ فَأَخَذْتُ بِكَشْحِهَا وَأَسْمَعُ الرَّسُولَ يَعْنِي النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يُبَايِعُ النَّاسَ فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَلَمْ يُبَايِعْنِي وَقَالَ «صَاحِبُ الْجُبَيْذَةِ بِالْأَمْسِ» فَقُلْتُ وَاللهِ لَا أَعُودُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَبَايَعَنِي

✧ I was in Madinah and a woman passed by me, so I grabbed her side while I could hear the Messenger—meaning the Prophet ﷺ—accepting the people’s pledges. I went to him and he would not accept my pledge, saying: “The one who pinched yesterday.” I said: “By Allah, I will not do it again, O Messenger of Allah,” so he accepted my pledge.
