✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ gave a sermon and said: "Indeed a man was given the choice by his Lord to live in this world as long as he wished, eating from it, or to meet his Lord; and he chose meeting his Lord." Abu Bakr wept. The companions of the Messenger of God ﷺ said: "Do you not marvel at this old man? The Messenger of God ﷺ mentioned a righteous man whom his Lord gave the choice between this world and meeting his Lord, and he chose meeting his Lord." Abu Bakr was the most knowledgeable of them about what the Messenger of God ﷺ meant. Abu Bakr said: "We would ransom you, O Messenger of God, with our wealth and our children." The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "No one among people has been more generous to us in his companionship and his wealth than Ibn Abi Quhafah. If I were to take a close friend, I would take Ibn Abi Quhafah, but [our relationship is] the love and brotherhood of faith. Your companion is the beloved of God."
