حَدَّثَنَا جَبْرُونَ بْنُ عِيسَى الْمَغْرِبِيُّ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْجَفْرِيُّ الْمَغْرِبِيُّ ثنا فُضَيْلُ بْنُ عِيَاضٍ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيِّ عَنْ عَوْنِ بْنِ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ضَرَبَ عَلَى النَّاسِ بَعْثًا فَخَرَجُوا فَرَجَعَ أَبُو الدَّحْدَاحِ فَقَالَ

لَهُ مُعَاوِيَةُ أَلَمْ تَكُنْ خَرَجْتَ مَعَ النَّاسِ؟ قَالَ بَلَى وَلَكِنِّي سَمِعْتُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حَدِيثًا فَأَحْبَبْتُ أَنْ أَضَعَهُ عِنْدَكَ مَخَافَةَ أَنْ لَا تَلْقَانِي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ مَنْ وَلِيَ مِنْكُمْ عَمَلًا فَحَجَبَ بَابَهُ عَنْ ذِي حَاجَةِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ حَجَبَهُ اللهُ أَنْ يَلِجَ بَابَ الْجَنَّةِ وَمَنْ كَانَتْ هِمَّتُهُ الدُّنْيَا حَرَّمَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ جَوَارِيَ فَإِنِّي بُعِثْتُ بِخَرابِ الدُّنْيَا وَلَمْ أُبْعَثْ بِعَمَارَتِهَا»

✧ Muawiya said to him: "Did you not go out with the people?" He said: "Yes, but I heard a hadith from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and I wanted to place it with you, fearing that you might not meet me. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'O people, whoever among you is given authority over something and then closes his door against a needy Muslim, Allah will close His gate against him entering Paradise. And whoever's main concern is this world, Allah will forbid him from my company, for I have been sent with the ruin of this world, not with its construction.'"
