✧ He heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, then he went out to the gathering of his people and sat with them. I got up and sat with him, and he narrated to his people just as 'Amr b. Sa'id narrated. Abu Shuraih said: I said, 'O this one, we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he conquered Makkah. On the day after the conquest, the Khaza'ah attacked a man from Hudhayl and killed him while he was a polytheist. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up as a preacher and said: O people, Allah made Makkah sacred on the day He created the heavens and the earth. It is sacred by Allah's sanctity until the Day of Resurrection. It is not lawful for any person who believes in Allah and the Last Day to shed blood in it or to cut down its trees. It was not made lawful for anyone before me, nor will it be made lawful for anyone after me. It was only made lawful for me for this hour out of anger against its people. Then its sanctity returned as it was yesterday. Let those of you who are present convey to those who are absent. Whoever tells you that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ fought in it, say: Allah made it lawful for His Messenger but did not make it lawful for you. O people of Khaza'ah, restrain your hands from killing. It has become too much that killing should occur. You have killed a killed one, and I will pay his blood money. Whoever kills after this standing of mine, his family has the better of two options: if they wish, they may take the killer, and if they wish, they may take the blood money.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ paid the blood money for the man killed from Hudhayl. And the wording is that of al-Nufayli's hadith.
