✧ I said, “O Prophet of God, tell me.” He said, “If you wish, I will tell you what you came to ask about; and if you wish, ask.” I said, “Rather tell me, O Messenger of God, for that is more pleasing to my soul.” He said, “You came to ask about certainty and doubt.” I said, “That is it, O Messenger of God.” He said, “Certainty is what settles in the chest and the heart is at rest with it, even if the muftis give you a fatwa. Leave what makes you doubt for what does not make you doubt, for good is tranquility and doubt is unease. When you doubt, leave what makes you doubt for what does not make you doubt.” I said, “O Prophet of God, may my father and mother be your ransom, what is bias?” He said, “That you help your people in wrongdoing. The scrupulous is the one who halts at doubtful matters, and the greedy for this world is the one who seeks it from an unlawful source, and sin is what causes unease in the chest.”
