حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ السِّمْسَارُ ثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ خِدَاشٍ ثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ حَيَّةَ عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ قَالَ
تَنَحَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَتَنَحَّيْتُ مَعَهُ فَدَنَوْتُ مِنْهُ قَالَ «مَعَكَ مَاءٌ؟» قُلْتُ نَعَمْ فَغَسَلَ كَفَّيْهِ وَوَجْهَهُ وَذَهَبَ يَغْسِلُ يَدَيْهِ وَعَلَيْهِ جُبَّةٌ فَضَاقَتْ فَأَخْرَجَ يَدَهُ مِنْ أَسْفَلِ الْجُبَّةِ فَغَسَلَهُمَا ثُمَّ مَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ ثُمَّ جَاءَ يُصَلِّي وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ فَلَمَّا رَأَوْا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ تَنَحْنَحُوا فَذَهَبَ يَتَأَخَّرُ فَأَوْمَأَ إِلَيْهِ امْضِهْ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ withdrew, and I withdrew with him. I approached him, and he said, “Do you have water with you?” I said, “Yes.” He washed his palms and his face, then began to wash his forearms while wearing a jubba. It was tight, so he brought his hand out from underneath the jubba and washed both arms, then wiped over his leather socks. Then he came to pray while ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAwf was leading the people in prayer. When they saw the Prophet ﷺ, they cleared their throats. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān started to step back, but he gestured to him, “Continue.”
