حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ الرِّحَابِيُّ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَكِيمٍ الْمُقَوِّمُ ثنا مَكِّيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ثنا دَاوُدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الْأَوْدِيُّ عَنْ عَامِرٍ الشَّعْبِيُّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ سَمِعَ أَبَاهُ قَالَ
كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَذَهَبَ لِحَاجَتِهِ ثُمَّ أَشَارَ إِلَيَّ فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِمَاءٍ وَعَلَيْهِ جُبَّةٌ شَامِيَّةٌ لَيْسَ لَهَا يَدَانِ فَأَلْقَاهَا عَلَى عَاتِقِهِ فَقَالَ «صُبَّ عَلَيَّ» فَصَبَبْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ وَكَانَتْ سُنَّةً «الْمُسَافِرُ ثَلَاثَةُ أَيَّامٍ وَلَيَالِيهِنَّ وَلِلْمُقِيمِ يَوْمٌ وَلَيْلَةٌ»

✧ We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he went to relieve himself. Then he gestured to me, and I brought him water. He was wearing a Syrian jubba that had no sleeves, so he threw it over his shoulders and said, "Pour water over me." So I poured water over him, and he performed ablution and wiped over his leather socks. And this was a sunnah: for the traveler, three days and their nights; for the resident, one day and one night.
