✧ I heard my father narrate, and he had lived through the Jahiliyyah and Islam. He said: I set up traps for myself at al-Abwa'. A gazelle fell into one of the traps, and the rope flipped over. We went out following its tracks, and I found a man who had taken it. We disputed and took the matter to the Prophet ﷺ. We found him camped at al-Abwa' under a tree, shading himself with a leather mat. He judged it between us as two halves. I said: O Messenger of God, these are my traps on its leg. He said: "That is it." I said: O Messenger of God, we are at a water source, and camels come to us thirsty, so we give them water. Is there any reward for us in that? He said: "Yes, in every living being with a warm liver there is reward." I said: O Messenger of God, tall camels meet us with their udders tied, and we are hungry. He said: "Say: O owner of the camels, O owner of the camels, three times. If he comes, then fine; otherwise, untie their udder straps, milk, drink, and retie their udder straps, and leave for the milk its channels."
