✧ I came to the Prophet ﷺ with the sadaqah of our camels, and he ordered that it be accepted. I said, “In it are two she-camels as a gift for you.” So the gift was set aside from the sadaqah. A few days later, people began saying that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was going to send Khalid b. al-Walid to the slaves of Egypt — or he said “to Egypt” (Abu Ghassan was unsure) — and would allocate the sadaqah to them. I said, “By Allah, we have no property with us or with our families other than that, and their sadaqah is here.” So I came to the Prophet ﷺ while he was on a she-camel of his, and with him was a black man whose head was level with the head of the Prophet ﷺ. I had never seen anyone taller than him. As I drew near, he seemed to lean toward me, but the Prophet ﷺ held him back. I said, “The people have been saying such-and-such.” The Prophet ﷺ raised his hand until I saw the whiteness of his armpits and said: “O Allah, I do not permit them to tell lies about me.” Al-Munqa` said: “I never narrated from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ except a statement that a Book has spoken or a Sunnah that has been established. Lies are told about him during his lifetime, so how will it be after his death?”
